A3S is a non-profit association of Research and Development (R&D), based in Porto, Portugal, whose mission is to promote social empowerment and the sustainability of Social and Solidarity Economy, through applied research and capacity-building of organizations and professionals working in this sector. They carry out actionoriented and policy-oriented research and knowledge dissemination activities seeking to contribute to the consolidation of inclusive, participatory and sustainable development alternatives. They develop their work through participatory methodologies and through co-construction with the partners, stakeholders and target-groups with whom they work.

Main activities: 

• Applied and Action Research in the fields of labour, work inclusion, social policy, cooperative models, social and solidarity economy; 

• Knowledge dissemination to the social economy sector, including grassroots organizations and their professionals, public sector & policy makers, and the wider public; 

• Education & Training; 

• Consultancy for capacity-building, organisational change and strategic planning; 

• Monitoring & Evaluation of projects and programmes, namely in the social practice arts, development cooperation and concerning the empowerment vulnerable groups.
